Who says weddings have to be predictable? Bridget and Doug ditched the traditional script and leaned fully into something bold, fun, and totally them, a 1920s flapper-style murder mystery wedding set in the stunning Allerton Mansion in Monticello, Illinois. Dressed to the nines in black, white, and gold, their guests stepped into a Gatsby-esque evening filled with champagne, chandeliers, and just a bit of theatrical mayhem.
Getting ready at the Allerton Mansion meant being surrounded by ornate ceilings, historic woodwork, and vintage elegance that practically begged for dramatic portraits. With both Bridget and Doug getting ready on-site, the energy was calm but buzzing like the calm before a very fashionable storm. Bridget’s dress? Elegant and timeless. The mansion? The perfect backdrop for something that felt half wedding, half Hollywood mystery set.
The indoor ceremony was intimate, heartfelt, and full of 1920s glam. Officiated by James Nussbaum, Bridget and Doug said “I do” in a space that oozed old-world charm. And while there weren’t any surprise exits or unplugged rules, the entire day still felt delightfully theatrical like at any moment, a character from a noir film might dramatically burst in with a plot twist.
After the vows, the cocktail hour spilled into the elegant halls of Allerton, followed by a reception that leaned full-throttle into the theme. Guests mingled, sipped cocktails, and waited for the next clue in the murder mystery storyline (which even the couple didn’t know ahead of time). It was immersive, interactive, and insanely fun.
What made Bridget and Doug’s day unforgettable wasn’t just the venue (though the mansion truly is a showstopper) or the attire (10/10 for flapper realness), but how every single detail was crafted with intention, personality, and a good dose of humor. It felt like stepping into another world for a night—and isn’t that what the best weddings do?
