They chose Barrelhouse The Venue in Michigan City because it’s historic, beautiful, and right where they wanted to be. It has that “classic building with character” look, but still feels clean and modern once you’re inside. Add in their celestial theme and a navy-and-gold palette, and it all came together like a cozy little night sky party.

Getting Ready With Halloween Energy And Halo Energy

Guendolen started the day at Fringe + Ink Creative Co., and the energy was exactly what you’d expect from someone who loves Halloween and video games. Fun, a little edgy, and not taking itself too seriously. She was surrounded by the kind of people you can laugh with immediately, even when the day starts early and you’re still waking up.

James got ready at his mom’s house with a crew that could talk forever about one thing: Halo. Respect. If you know, you know.

Even though they didn’t have a bridal party, the day still had that “our people are here” feeling from the start.

A First Look That Set The Tone

Guendolen and James chose to do a first look, and it was such a solid move for this day. It gave them a quiet moment together before guests arrived, and it helped the rest of the day feel relaxed instead of rushed.

They also talked about possibly heading to Washington Park Beach for portraits if the weather played nice, which would have been a perfect match for their celestial theme. Navy, gold, lakefront, and that soft coastal light, it’s a whole vibe.

An Outdoor Ceremony With A Non-Traditional Twist

Their ceremony was planned outdoors, weather permitting, and it was also unplugged, which we love. You can feel the difference when guests are actually watching the moment instead of filming it.

They kept things non-traditional and non-religious, and one of the coolest little moments was bringing both of their brothers forward as witnesses. Both named Josh. So instead of calling names individually, they planned to simply ask, “Will the Joshes please come forward?” That is exactly the kind of small, funny detail that makes a ceremony feel like it belongs to the couple.

Reception Vibes: Dessert Table, Pretzel Bar, And Dance Floor Moments

After cocktail hour, everyone moved into dinner and the celebration really started rolling.

Instead of a cake cutting, they leaned into what mattered more to them: good food, good people, and a night that actually felt like a party. A dessert table came out first, then later a soft pretzel bar showed up, which is an elite late-night snack choice.

They also included parent dances and a “who’s been together the longest” style dance, which always turns into one of those feel-good moments where people start cheering for the couples still standing.

Their first dance song was Merry-Go-Round of Life, which is such a beautiful pick. It’s romantic without being cheesy, and it fits their celestial theme perfectly. It felt like the soundtrack to a love story, not just a wedding moment.
