Annie and Justin’s Notre Dame engagement session had everything we love. A classic location, a fun little date plan, and a couple who actually enjoyed the day instead of “performing” for the camera.
We explored campus, made a stop at the Chocolate Cafe, and then they painted together to wrap it all up. Their dog even joined for a few photos, which instantly bumps any session up a level.
Notre Dame is one of those spots that just works for engagement photos. You’ve got iconic architecture, clean lines, great pockets of light, and a ton of variety without having to travel far.
But the best part is how it feels. It’s classic and timeless, but it still has room for personality. Annie and Justin leaned into that mix perfectly.
We started with a relaxed walk around Notre Dame, grabbing those clean, frame-worthy portraits while everything still felt fresh.
No stiff posing marathons. Just simple direction, a little movement, and letting them hang out together. The kind of session where the laughs show up without you having to force anything.
Next up was the Chocolate Cafe, which is such a fun way to break up a session. Warm drinks, cozy vibes, and an easy excuse to slow down for a minute.
Some of our favorite candids happen in moments like this, because couples stop thinking about the camera and just start being themselves again.
Then we got to the best part. Annie and Justin painted together.
If you’ve ever wondered how to make engagement photos feel more like a real date, this is it. Give yourselves something to do. It adds movement, reactions, and all the little interactions that make photos feel alive.
Plus, it makes the session feel personal in a way that you can’t fake. It was relaxed, fun, and full of those “wait, that’s actually adorable” moments.
Their dog joined for a few photos too, and honestly, it’s always a yes from us.
A few quick portraits with your pup gives you photos that feel like real life, and it keeps the session playful and easy. We keep it simple, grab the shots, give the dog lots of praise, and then let them go back to being the main character for the rest of your day.
1) Build your session around a mini date plan.
A coffee stop, dessert, painting, bowling, arcade games, anything you’d actually do together. It makes everything feel natural.
2) Keep your locations close.
Notre Dame is perfect for this because you can get a ton of variety without spending half the session driving and parking.
3) If your dog is coming, bring the essentials.
A leash that looks nice, a few treats, and a friend who can hold the leash when we’re not shooting dog photos. Smooth and stress-free.
If you want engagement photos that feel fun, personal, and not overly posed, take a note from Annie and Justin. Pick a place you love, add a date activity, and let the rest unfold naturally.
We’ll guide you through it, keep it easy, and make sure you walk away with photos that actually feel like your relationship.
