Tonya and Derek’s Bensons Barn wedding had that sweet spot energy. Relaxed, personal, and fun, but still full of moments that actually mattered.
If you’re planning a Bensons Barn wedding, this day is proof that you can keep things easygoing without losing any of the emotion or style.
Tonya and Derek both got ready at their friends residence in Galien, which made the whole day feel smoother from the start.
Less driving. Less chaos. More time with the people who showed up for them.
Tonya had a few detail items ready for photos too, including invites and jewelry, which is always a great move when you want your gallery to feel complete.
They chose to do a first look, and it ended up being one of the most meaningful parts of the day.
Tonya surprised Derek with a gift he didn’t know about. A pin with photos of his brother, best friend, and grandfather who have passed.
It was one of those moments that gets quiet in the best way.
Just them, taking it in, before the day started flying.
The ceremony took place outdoors at Bensons Barn in Buchanan with a 3:00 PM start.
Their officiant was Ronald Oatsvall, and the ceremony itself stayed true to their vibe. Country, boho, and personal.
They even mentioned the idea of doing a whiskey shot to seal their vows, which is honestly iconic.
No extra fluff. Just a solid, meaningful “we’re doing this” moment.
After the ceremony, we rolled into family photos and portraits at the venue.
Then we snuck away for a few minutes and took a quick drive to downtown Buchanan for more couple photos.
This is such a good idea if you want your gallery to have variety without turning portraits into a two-hour production.
Plus, Tonya and Derek wanted lots of direction during portraits, which we love. You give us the “tell us what to do” energy and we’ll make it feel natural, romantic, and still very you.
Cocktail hour started at 3:45 PM and the reception kicked off at 4:15 PM, all at Bensons Barn.
Dinner was around 5:00 PM, and their first dance followed later in the evening.
The whole reception felt like what they wanted it to be. A real celebration, not a performance.
Tonya’s mom has been gone for 22 years, and Derek has experienced loss too, including his brother, his best friend, and his grandfather.
They intentionally made space for remembrance in a way that still felt like them, not heavy, just real.
They were also getting married on Veterans Day, so they planned a setup honoring veterans, including photos of guests who have served.
Those are the touches that people remember because they’re not just decor. They’re personal.
Bensons Barn is one of those venues that makes a wedding feel cozy and open at the same time.
Country setting. Great flow between ceremony and reception. Plenty of space to breathe, mingle, and party.
Tonya and Derek’s day fit the venue perfectly, and their “country, boho, fantastic” description nailed it.
