Devin and Marisa’s engagement session in Grand Rapids was the perfect mix of moody city vibes and cozy real life.
We embraced a rainy downtown session first, then wrapped things up at home with pizza, their cats, and the kind of relaxed moments that feel the most “them.”
Rainy sessions are honestly underrated.
The streets get reflective, the light gets softer, and downtown feels a little quieter. It adds atmosphere without needing anything extra. We kept things moving, found pockets of cover when we needed it, and used the rain to give their photos that moody, cinematic edge.
Devin and Marisa rolled with it completely, and that’s what made the first half of the session feel effortless.
After downtown, we headed back to their place for the coziest second half.
At-home engagement photos are one of our favorite ways to tell a couple’s story because it’s real life. No pressure, no performing, just you two in your space. Add pizza and cats and it gets even better.
We captured them hanging out, sharing pizza, laughing, and letting their cats do what cats do, casually steal the show and pretend they don’t care about the camera.
This combo gives you the best of both worlds.
Downtown brings the energy and texture. Home brings the comfort and personality. Together, it creates a gallery that feels full and story-driven without being overcomplicated.
1) Don’t panic about rain.
Rain can make your photos look incredible. We’ll adjust as needed and keep it comfortable.
2) Bring a simple umbrella.
It helps keep you dry and can look great in photos too.
3) Make the home portion feel like you.
Pizza, coffee, cocktails, cats, whatever your normal looks like, that’s the good stuff.
If you want an engagement session that mixes a little adventure with a lot of personality, this is such a fun way to do it.
We’ll help you plan a session that flows naturally and captures the parts of your relationship that actually matter.
