Michelle and Matt’s engagement session was one of the most uniquely “them” sessions ever.
They have a full-on 50’s diner vibe in their basement, and instead of forcing a random location, we leaned into their space and turned it into a fun, at-home date night session.
This is exactly why we love at-home sessions.
Your home can have more personality than any park or downtown block, especially when you’ve built something as cool as a 50’s diner basement.
It felt nostalgic, playful, and personal all at the same time, and the photos came out with so much character because it was their real environment.
When you’re at home, you automatically relax.
No crowds. No people watching. No pressure to “perform.”
And when you’ve got something to do, like hanging out in your own diner setup, the camera becomes background noise. That’s when the real laughs happen and the candid moments show up without forcing anything.
We treated this session like a little story.
We captured the vibe of the space, the fun details, and the way they interacted in it, then mixed in a few relaxed portraits that still fit the look and feel.
The result was a gallery that felt cohesive, personal, and totally different from what most people do for engagement photos.
1) Use a space that has personality.
A themed room, a cool basement setup, your kitchen, your porch, anything that feels like your real life together.
2) Choose an activity.
Coffee, cooking, games, records, hanging out, anything that gives you something to do while we capture the moments.
3) Don’t stress perfection.
Your home doesn’t need to be Pinterest perfect. It just needs to feel like you.
If you want engagement photos that feel personal, relaxed, and actually fun, an at-home session is such a good option.
Bring us your space, your hobbies, your vibe, and we’ll help turn it into a session that feels like you from start to finish.
