Noah and Pauline’s Notre Dame proposal was one of those moments that hits you all at once.
The nerves, the excitement, the split second when it all clicks for her, and then the instant joy when she realizes what’s happening. Notre Dame is already a beautiful place to pop the question, but their reactions made the whole thing unforgettable.
The University of Notre Dame campus is a classic proposal location for a reason.
Timeless architecture, iconic backdrops, and plenty of spots that feel quiet and romantic even when campus is busy. It’s the kind of place that instantly makes the moment feel bigger, in the best way.
Noah had a plan, kept it cool, and pulled it off perfectly.
There’s always a specific second during a surprise proposal where everything changes.
Pauline realized what was happening, and you could see the whole emotional rollercoaster in her face. Shock, happy tears, laughter, and then the yes.
It happened fast, like it always does, but that’s why having it photographed matters. You don’t get a redo on the moment.
After the proposal, we took a little time to let them soak it in and then captured a set of “just engaged” portraits around campus.
These are always some of our favorite photos because the energy is so real. The nerves are gone, the adrenaline is high, and you’re basically floating.
We kept it simple, walked, talked, found great light, and let the excitement do the work.
1) Pick a spot that feels meaningful.
Notre Dame has a lot of iconic areas, so choosing a location that fits your story makes it even better.
2) Keep the plan simple.
Simple is easier to execute and easier to enjoy. The moment is what matters.
3) Have a signal.
A quick text or cue lets us know exactly when you’re about to go for it so we’re in the right place.
4) Give yourselves time after.
Build in a few minutes to breathe, hug, laugh, and let it sink in before jumping into portraits.
If you’re planning a surprise proposal at Notre Dame and want it captured in a way that feels real and not staged, we’d love to help.
We’ll help you plan the timing, stay hidden, and make sure your photos tell the story exactly how it felt.
