Paige and Ryan’s South Bend engagement session was basically the perfect “Saturday in our favorite places” kind of vibe.
We started at Cloud Walking Coffee, wandered the Griffin Bookstore, and wrapped things up at Leeper Park for some relaxed portraits along the river. Simple, personal, and full of real moments.
This is our favorite way to plan engagement photos.
Pick locations that actually feel like you. Places you’d go on a normal day together. That’s how your photos end up feeling natural and personal instead of like you’re forcing a vibe that isn’t yours.
Cloud Walking Coffee is such a great first stop for engagement photos.
Coffee shop sessions are instant comfort. You’ve got something to do, something to hold, and a natural way to settle in together. We captured cozy moments inside, then moved around nearby for a few clean portraits that still felt relaxed.
Next up was the Griffin Bookstore, which is always a fun stop if you’re even slightly bookish.
Bookstores are full of texture and personality, and they give you that built-in “activity” that makes photos feel unposed. Browsing shelves, laughing at weird titles, picking out favorites, it’s real interaction, which is why it photographs so well.
We finished the session at Leeper Park for a totally different look.
The paths, river views, and open green space give you that timeless South Bend backdrop, and it’s perfect for a mix of scenic portraits and those quieter, connected moments.
By this point, Paige and Ryan were fully warmed up, which is always when the best candids happen.
1) Keep it to two or three stops.
This combo is the sweet spot. Enough variety without feeling rushed.
2) Choose outfits that work in both indoor and outdoor light.
Simple layers photograph great and give you flexibility.
3) Treat it like a date.
Don’t overthink it. The best photos happen when you’re just enjoying each other.
If you want engagement photos that feel personal and fun, pick places you actually love and let’s build a session around them.
Coffee, bookstores, parks, bars, arcades, whatever feels like you two. We’ll guide you through everything and make sure the photos feel natural from start to finish.
