Kate and Nick’s wedding day at The Morris Estate in Niles, Michigan was romantic, cozy, and the kind of celebration that felt intentional without feeling stiff.
You could tell right away they cared about the experience, for themselves, for their families, and for every guest in the room. The result was a day that flowed beautifully and still had plenty of “okay this is FUN” energy once the party started.
The Chapel at The Morris Estate has that warm, intimate feel that makes a wedding day feel personal right away.
It’s cozy without being cramped, elegant without being over-the-top, and it’s especially perfect for couples who want a ceremony that feels close and present.
Kate described it as “cozy, not too big, but still perfect for a solid guest count,” and honestly that nails it.
One of the underrated perks of their day was the simplicity of getting ready at the same location as the ceremony.
No bouncing around town. No “where’s the tie” car rides. No timeline stress created by travel.
Just a calm start, with Kate and her crew chatting about true crime and travel, and Nick’s side bringing the softball and video game energy.
Kate and Nick chose to wait to see each other until the ceremony, which always adds that extra layer of anticipation.
They also built in two really meaningful elements, a unity candle and a handfasting ceremony. Those moments slow everything down in the best way and make the ceremony feel even more like a shared promise, not just a script you rush through.
And then they sealed it with a fake snow confetti exit, which is a top-tier “this is so them” way to end the ceremony without needing anything complicated.
Kate told us she wanted as much direction as we could give, and we love that.
That combo of clear guidance plus a couple who’s down to play is what creates portraits that feel polished but still real.
It’s not about forcing moments. It’s about setting you up, then letting the in-between stuff happen naturally.
After the ceremony, everyone headed to Gallery 1245 for the reception, and the vibe shifted into celebration mode fast.
There were toasts, cake, a first dance to “Tennessee Whiskey,” and then the dance floor opened up and never really looked back.
One of the most meaningful parts of the night was Kate dedicating a bouquet to her mom. Those are the moments that stick with people, because they’re not just “wedding events.” They’re real life showing up in the middle of the party.
They also wanted to do a photo dash, which is one of our favorite ways to get a ridiculous number of guest photos without turning it into an hour-long line.
It’s quick, it’s high-energy, and it gets everyone involved. Plus, guests actually have fun doing it, which means your photos look better too.
If you’re planning a ceremony at one location and a reception somewhere else, plan a small buffer between the two.
Even 10 to 15 minutes helps everyone reset, grab a drink, and arrive at the reception feeling ready to party instead of feeling rushed.
It makes the whole evening feel smoother, and your guests feel it too.
