Emma and Eric’s Grand Rapids engagement session had the best kind of energy, relaxed, fun, and built around something they’d actually do together.
We started at the Downtown Market for that lively “grab a bite and wander” vibe, then took a walk around the city for a mix of modern backdrops and candid moments.
The Downtown Market is such a great engagement session spot in Grand Rapids because it instantly gives you movement and variety.
You’ve got indoor textures, colorful spots, little corners to tuck into, and that natural “date night” flow. When you’re walking around together and interacting, the photos feel more like real life and less like a posing marathon.
We kept this session simple.
Wander, chat, stop when something looked cool, then keep moving. That rhythm is perfect for a place like the market because there’s always something happening, and that energy shows up in the photos.
Emma and Eric were fully in it, which gave us a great mix of candid laughs and clean portraits that still felt natural.
After the market, we headed out into downtown for a second look.
Grand Rapids has so many great city textures, brick walls, storefronts, sidewalks, and little pockets of light that make the photos feel modern and timeless at the same time.
We grabbed a mix of wider shots that show the city vibe and tighter portraits that keep the focus on them.
1) Pick something you’d actually do.
Food, coffee, browsing, walking. Real activities make your photos feel real.
2) Wear comfortable shoes.
Market + downtown sessions usually involve a good amount of walking.
3) Keep outfits clean and intentional.
Solid colors and simple layers photograph beautifully with modern city backdrops.
If you want engagement photos that feel fun, relaxed, and built around your favorite spots, Grand Rapids is such a great place to do it.
We’ll help you plan the flow, guide you through everything, and capture a gallery that feels like you two from start to finish.
