Vieve’s portrait session at the Japanese Garden in South Bend was an absolute vibe.
She showed up as her cosplay character, Akako the Kitsune, and we got to create portraits that felt cinematic, playful, and powerful all at once.
The Japanese Garden was the perfect setting for this session.
It already has a calm, intentional feel with clean lines, natural textures, and spots that make you feel like you stepped into a different world for a minute.
Pair that with a kitsune-inspired character and you’ve got a portrait session that feels like a story, not just photos.
We love cosplay sessions because the details matter.
The colors, the accessories, the poses, the expressions, and the way the character moves in the environment. It’s creative, it’s expressive, and it’s such a fun way to make portraits feel personal and unique.
Vieve absolutely crushed it. Akako had that fox spirit energy, confident, mischievous, and fully in character.
We approached the shoot like storytelling.
We moved through different parts of the garden, looked for clean backgrounds and interesting textures, and built a mix of wide scenic shots and tighter, editorial-style portraits.
Some frames felt calm and mysterious. Some felt bold and powerful. And the best part is, it all stayed cohesive because the location and character matched so well.
1) Pick a location that fits the character.
When the setting matches the story, the photos instantly feel more believable and immersive.
2) Bring the small details.
Props, accessories, makeup touch-ups, and anything that completes the look makes a big difference on camera.
3) Mix posed and candid movement.
A few strong hero poses plus natural movement gives you a gallery that feels dynamic and real.
If you’ve got a character, a concept, or a creative idea you’ve been dying to bring to life, we’re here for it.
Cosplay sessions are a blast, and we love building portraits that feel like you stepped straight out of your own story.
