Maryrose and Jess chose Shadowland on Silver Beach for reasons that feel exactly like them. Maryrose’s favorite place in the world is the beach near her grandma’s cabin down the road, and it also happens to be where Jess proposed. Jess had always dreamed of a wedding on the beach, so Shadowland was the perfect “we get everything we want” kind of choice.
They described it best as an ocean view for a Great Lakes price, and honestly, that’s the vibe. Big water, soft breeze, and that relaxed beach feeling without needing a passport.
Jess wanted Marilyn Monroe energy. Maryrose wanted a dress that showed off all her assets. David’s Bridal made both missions happen.
Jess’s dress even had deep pockets, which is immediately iconic. It also just fits their whole vibe, fun, confident, and not taking themselves too seriously while still looking incredible.
Leading up to the wedding, their biggest anxiety wasn’t the weather or the timeline. It was the endless questions people ask during planning, especially when you do not have a final answer yet.
Then the day arrived and proved the point they learned in real time: it all comes together. The parts that feel overwhelming in the months before tend to fade the second you are actually standing there with your person, surrounded by your people.
Their inspiration was intentionally simple. Think beach wedding without the cheesy stuff. Sea greens, blues, white flowers, and letting the venue do what it already does best.
But even with the calm, minimalist look, the energy of the day was very clear. They were most excited for the dancing and the party, and that’s exactly where the night went. The kind of reception where the main goal is to enjoy the hell out of being together and letting your favorite people do what they do best, celebrate you hard.
Instead of a traditional guest book, they had guests sign sea glass or a driftwood heart. Maryrose and Jess already go on long beach walks looking for sea glass, so turning that into a keepsake they can display at home is one of those ideas that feels personal and timeless.
They also hand-crafted their wedding welcome sign during a class at Board & Brush. That sign is not getting tucked into a closet. It’s going above their front door so it gets seen every day, which is the whole point of choosing meaningful details.
The biggest surprise of the day was Maryrose’s after-vows poetry, titled “erotic feral poetry.”
If you know, you know. If you don’t, just understand that it was unforgettable and absolutely on brand for them.
When we asked about their favorite part of the day, they didn’t point to a single moment. They described a feeling, that wild, hard-to-explain joy of having all your favorite people in one place at the same time, and realizing you will never forget how that felt.
That feeling lasted the whole night. That’s the win. That’s why people do this.
If you want a beautiful wedding without spending a fortune on decor, Maryrose and Jess nailed it. Amazon flowers and centerpieces can save you a ridiculous amount of money, and if you keep your design simple and intentional, nobody’s going to care where it came from. They’re going to remember how it felt.
