Theresa and Joe’s Chicago engagement session was the perfect mix of “let’s go on a date” and “this is what our real life looks like.”
We started at a park with lily pads, stone paths, and warm golden light, then wrapped things up with cozy home lifestyle photos that felt relaxed and personal.
Based on the lily pond, the stonework, and that signature prairie-style feel, this spot looks like the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool in Lincoln Park.
It’s one of those locations that makes photos feel calm and cinematic at the same time. The greenery frames everything, the reflections off the water do something pretty, and the whole space naturally slows you down.
Theresa and Joe were easy from the jump. Comfortable together, lots of natural laughter, and that quiet kind of connection that reads instantly in photos.
We kept things simple. A little walking, a few stops where the light hit just right, and plenty of space for the candid stuff to happen in between.
After the park, we switched gears and headed home for lifestyle photos, and honestly, this is such an underrated way to round out an engagement session.
Your home has built-in meaning. It’s where you actually live, hang out, cook, chill, laugh at dumb stuff, and do normal life together. That kind of comfort shows up immediately on camera.
The result is a gallery that feels balanced. A little “Chicago iconic,” and a whole lot of “this is us.”
1) Pick one beautiful outdoor spot, then go personal.
One strong park location gives you the wow factor. Home gives you the story.
2) Keep the park part simple.
Walk, pause, breathe. The best photos happen when you’re not rushing to hit ten different backdrops.
3) For home photos, think “activities,” not poses.
Coffee on the couch, cooking something together, music in the kitchen, flipping through a book, anything that feels like your normal.
4) Double check photo rules for parks.
Some Chicago locations have permit guidelines depending on what you’re doing. If you ever want to be extra safe, we can help you plan around that.
If you want engagement photos that feel natural, personal, and not overly posed, this park + home combo is such a good move.
Give us your vibe, and we’ll help build a plan that feels easy and looks incredible.
