If you’re picturing a Palais Royale wedding that feels classic, packed with people you love, and absolutely ready to party, Noreen and Matthew’s day was that vibe from start to finish.
The whole timeline was built around two big priorities: get the meaningful stuff documented beautifully, and then get everyone on the dance floor. They pulled it off perfectly.
The day started with Noreen getting ready at home with her people, and the energy was exactly what you’d expect when Taylor Swift is basically part of the bridal party conversation.
Matthew got ready downtown at The Oliver Inn Bed & Breakfast, which is one of those spots that just works for groom prep. It has character, good window light, and it keeps everyone calm before the day really takes off.
Noreen and Matthew chose to do a first look, which gave them a breather before the ceremony and helped keep the afternoon moving.
They also knew portrait time needed a smart plan because they had a big family list and multiple campus stops. So we kept things clean and efficient. We gave Matthew clear direction so he never had to wonder what to do with his hands. That is always the goal.
They were married at Holy Cross College, St. Joseph Chapel, and the ceremony had one detail we loved right away.
They entered together.
No “giving away” moment. No forced aisle performance. Just the two of them walking into this next chapter side by side, which felt very on-brand for who they are.
They also opted for an unplugged ceremony, which made the whole chapel feel more present and more connected. Guests were actually watching, not filming.
Because family mattered a ton to Noreen and Matthew (and because the list was substantial), they planned family portraits immediately after Mass in the chapel. That choice kept things smooth and prevented the “we’ll find everyone later” chaos that can derail a timeline fast.
After the ceremony, we headed into campus portrait mode.
They wanted a mix of iconic and personal:
Saint Mary’s spots near LeMans and the island
Notre Dame’s Golden Dome and God Quad
A few creative “across the road” composition ideas they were excited about
When couples come in with fun photo concepts like that, it’s our favorite. We’ll guide the posing, keep it moving, and still leave room for the real moments in between.
And then it was time for the main event.
Palais Royale is one of those South Bend venues that just nails “classic reception done right.” It has that timeless interior, plenty of space, and it’s built for a big, lively party. Their words for the day were big, lively, crazy, and Palais Royale said, “Cool, I was made for this.”
Cocktail hour kicked off at 4:30, guests were seated around 6, and then the night rolled into intros, dinner, and speeches.
Their first dance song was “Today Was a Fairytale” by Taylor Swift, which is the kind of choice that instantly tells you what the rest of the night is going to feel like.
Also, there were two specific reception moments that mattered a lot:
When “The Wobble” hit, we were on high alert for Noreen because she told us, “Please do not miss this.” We did not miss it.
The Polish Grand March was the perfect “okay, everybody up” moment before open dancing really took off. It’s energetic, it’s chaotic in the best way, and it gets even the shy guests moving.
From there, it was just nonstop motion, big group energy, and the kind of candid moments you only get when people genuinely feel comfortable having fun.
