Sarah and Aaron’s Iceland elopement was the kind of day that makes you forget what time it is. Just two people, a wild little adventure plan, and Iceland doing its thing in the background. Windy when it wants to be, dramatic when it feels like it, and somehow still completely peaceful.
We bounced to a handful of spots so every part of the day felt different. Moody coast, rushing water, cliffs, caves, and all the in-between moments that ended up being everyone’s favorite.
Starting on the black sand instantly sets the tone. It’s bold, it’s gritty, it’s cinematic without trying. Sarah and Aaron leaned into the wind, the laughter, and the “okay hold on, my hair is doing something insane” moments. Those are the good ones. Those are the real ones.
Next stop was Gluggafoss, which you might also see called Merkjárfoss. It’s one of those waterfalls that hits different in person. The water breaks over the rock in this super textured way, and it photographs with a ton of depth even when the light is flat and moody.
Then we went full “edge of the world” at Krýsuvíkurbjarg. These sea cliffs feel massive and untamed in the best way, with the ocean below and that nonstop Iceland wind trying to steal everyone’s veil, vows, and dignity.
And to finish it off, we hit the Hella Caves. The vibe shift here is so fun. You go from huge open landscapes to something quiet and sheltered, with texture and shadows that make everything feel more intimate.
If you’re doing an Iceland elopement with multiple locations, plan your day around regions instead of chasing a million pins across the map. Fewer long drives means more time actually being present, warming up, laughing, exploring, and letting the photos look like your day felt.
