Taylor and Ryan’s wedding at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel South Bend was the kind of day that proves you can be elegant and still have a whole lot of personality. They had a bunch of out-of-town family in town, they wanted everything in one spot, and they leaned hard into the idea that a wedding does not have to be “standard” to be classy.

And yes, there was a droid involved. We will get there.

Why they chose the DoubleTree

If you are planning a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel South Bend wedding, this is the biggest win of the venue. It keeps everything under one roof.

Taylor and Ryan had a lot of people traveling in, so having a hotel that can handle getting ready, ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception made it easy for guests and way less stressful for them. No bouncing around town. No complicated logistics. Just show up, celebrate, and have a great time.

Plus, the remodel, the bright atrium, and that grand staircase do not hurt.

The dress story is actually wild

Taylor got her gown from The Sewing Lady Dress Boutique, and it was almost the dress she wanted, but not quite.

The shop only had the sample for two days and it was in a different color. Taylor took the leap anyway, ordered it in the color she wanted without seeing it, and then had it fully customized since the owner is a seamstress. Structure adjustments, sleeve changes, the works. It also happened to be the second dress she tried on, which feels illegal in wedding world rules.

And then the day-of surprise. The dress ended up being one of the biggest “holy crap” moments of the whole wedding.

Pre-wedding nerves that totally make sense

Taylor was anxious about opinions and about forgetting something. Then someone gave her the best reminder.

Nobody knows your plan unless you tell them. If something goes off-script, most guests will never notice. That advice basically saved her sanity.

Ryan’s biggest anticipation was seeing Taylor in her dress and watching everyone react to all their little details. Mission accomplished.

Nerdy details, but make it elegant

Their theme was fun, nerdy, elegant, and they nailed it without turning the day into a theme park.

A few of the personal touches that made it feel like them:

• A droid they built together at Disney, which made an appearance in the ceremony

• Barbie songs for the aisle, which is both hilarious and a vibe

• Ryan’s tie clip, Taylor’s necklace and bracelet, and other meaningful personal pieces

• Handmade florals by family, including flowers created by Taylor’s great-grandmother

• A photo booth that stayed busy all night

• A surprise groom’s cake and surprise sparklers they did not even know about until the day-of

The best part is that none of it felt forced. It just felt like Taylor and Ryan.

The ceremony moment everyone remembers

Taylor said one of the moments that will stick forever is how much fun they had with all their people, but ceremony-wise, there was one clear “this is it” moment.

That first look down the aisle energy is undefeated.

And because they chose an unplugged ceremony, the room felt more present and focused, which made everything hit harder.

The reception: chaos, in the best way

If you have never seen a Table Dash done right, Taylor and Ryan are your case study. It was one of their favorite parts of the whole day, and they will tell every future couple to do it.

They also loved seeing a few preview images up at the bar during the celebration. Guests were genuinely hyped to see photos from the day while the day was still happening, and it made everything feel even more “real-time.”

The dance floor stayed alive, the energy stayed high, and even the little hiccups became funny stories by the end of the night.

Also, shoutout to the forgotten boutonniere pins. Classic.

A quick planning tip from this wedding

If you are doing a Table Dash, tell your DJ to explain it like guests are five.
Short instructions, quick countdown, and then go. When it is clear, it is fast. When it is fast, it is fun.

Bonus tip: If you are doing sparklers, assign two “sparkler captains” so you are not trying to herd 170 people while also being the bride and groom.
