Autumn and Andrew’s Grand Rapids engagement session had the perfect flow.
We started with boba at Hoshi Hoshi, which instantly gave the session that fun, real-life date vibe, then we wrapped things up at Pickerel Lake for a quieter, scenic finish.
Beginning an engagement session with a stop like Hoshi Hoshi is always a win.
It gives you something to do, it helps you relax fast, and it makes the photos feel like your actual relationship instead of a staged moment. Autumn and Andrew were immediately in their element, laughing, sipping boba, and just being themselves.
We grabbed a mix of cozy close-ups and fun candid shots that set the tone for the rest of the session.
This is one of our favorite ways to build an engagement session.
Start with a place you genuinely love, then transition into something scenic. It keeps the session feeling natural and gives your final gallery more story and variety without adding stress.
After Hoshi Hoshi, we headed to Pickerel Lake to finish things off with a completely different vibe.
Open space, soft light, and that calm, outdoorsy feel that makes portraits feel timeless. We kept it relaxed, walked a bit, and captured a mix of scenic wide shots and close-up portraits so the gallery felt balanced from start to finish.
Boba and a lake are two totally different looks, and that’s exactly why it works.
Hoshi Hoshi brings personality and playfulness. Pickerel Lake brings calm and scenery. Together, it tells a fuller story of who Autumn and Andrew are, and it gives their engagement gallery a great mix of energy.
1) Pick a spot you actually go to.
Your favorite drink place or hangout makes photos feel instantly more personal.
2) Consider two outfits.
One casual look for the boba stop, then something a little more elevated for the lake.
3) Plan for a little walking.
Lake sessions are best when we can move around and find the best light.
If you want an engagement session that feels like a real date and also gives you those scenic portraits, this kind of two-stop plan is perfect.
Tell us what places feel like “you two,” and we’ll help build a session that flows naturally and looks incredible.
