Lexi and Kevin’s st ignace elopement was the definition of calm, intentional, and wildly them. They were not about tradition for tradition’s sake. It was about taking a breath, gathering their closest people (11 total), exchanging private vows, and turning Northern Michigan into the backdrop for a full-day celebration that felt like a vacation with purpose.
They originally planned something bigger. Life did what life does, and the plan shifted. Instead of forcing the old version to work, they leaned into a smaller day with more meaning and way less pressure. And honestly, it was 10,000% for the best.
This wasn’t a wedding that sprinted from moment to moment. Lexi and Kevin intentionally kept the schedule flexible so they could actually enjoy it. Getting ready started early, but the vibe stayed laid back. No “production,” no chaos, no trying to impress anyone. Just a couple who wanted to be present, and a crew that was there because they truly mattered.
That’s also what made it such a solid elopement destination. St. Ignace is perfect for this style of wedding, because the scenery is built-in and the pace invites you to slow down. It’s water, woods, open air, and space to breathe.
Lexi found her dress at Catherine’s Bridal in Valparaiso, and it happened fast. She went in not expecting to find anything and then it was the second dress she tried on. That is the best kind of shopping story, because it’s equal parts luck and “yep, that’s it.”
Kevin kept it simple too. Amazon came in clutch for the groom attire, and honestly, that tracks with the whole vibe of the day. No one was trying to overcomplicate anything. They were building a day that worked for their life, not a day that looked good on a checklist.
Lexi and Kevin said it straight. The thing they were most anxious about was the vows. So they handled it their way. They kept the day chilled and laid back to avoid spiraling, and they exchanged private vows late morning in an outdoor setting.
That choice made everything feel more intimate. No audience pressure. No nerves about “performing.” Just the two of them, saying the stuff that actually matters, in a way that felt honest. If you’re planning a st ignace elopement and you want something meaningful without feeling like you’re on stage, private vows are such a move.
Their “venue” was a VRBO rental, and it worked perfectly for what they wanted. Small guest count, relaxed pacing, and a home base where everyone could hang out like a family trip. Lexi and Kevin even said they were blown away by the scenery, especially after the switch from their original venue plans.
We did portraits around the VRBO rental, kept things natural, and then got ready for the part they were most excited about.
If you ask Lexi what her favorite part of the day was, it wasn’t hard. Definitely the island.
The plan was simple. Head out, spend the day on Mackinac Island, wander around, take photos, and celebrate in a way that felt like them. No rushing back to a ballroom. No squeezing in twenty formalities. Just real time together, in a place that makes you feel like you’re somewhere else entirely.
There was one surprise, though. The coldness of the ferry. Northern Michigan does not care what month it is, and that breeze hits different. Still worth it. Always worth it.
At the end of the day, Lexi and Kevin were skipping rocks. That was the forever moment.
Not a choreographed exit. Not a staged sendoff. Just a quiet, simple moment that felt like real life. Those are the memories that stick, because they are not manufactured. They’re just true.
Their advice to future couples was simple. Go with the flow and enjoy the day.
That mindset is exactly why their St Ignace elopement worked so well. It wasn’t trying to be a traditional wedding. It was trying to be a damn good day.
