Some weddings feel like a destination. Emma and Eric’s felt like a whole vibe.
Mackinac Island already has that unreal, storybook energy, and then you add in The Inn at Stonecliffe, an outdoor ceremony tucked at the grotto, and a couple who genuinely loves this place. It turns into the kind of day where everything feels a little more cinematic without anyone trying too hard.
Emma loves Mackinac, like, deeply. It is one of those places that just fits her soul, and it made total sense that their wedding would land here.
Eric proposed on Mackinac too, which made the whole thing feel like a full-circle moment. Same island, new chapter.
Emma started the day at the Grand Hotel Salon, which is honestly such a fun way to kick things off on the island. It felt calm, classic, and a little fancy in the best way.
Then we bounced between the guys and the girls as everyone got ready, keeping it relaxed and real. No forced energy, no weird “perform for the camera” stuff. Just the crew hanging out, soaking in the fact that this day was finally here.
Emma and Eric chose not to do a first look, which turned their ceremony entrance into the main event.
There is something about waiting for that moment at the aisle, especially with a quieter couple, that just hits different. When they finally saw each other, it was simple and honest. The kind of moment you can feel without it needing to be loud.
Their ceremony was outside at the grotto, and it was one of those settings that feels instantly intimate, even with a solid guest count. Under 100 people, surrounded by nature, and wrapped in that Mackinac air that makes everything feel a little softer.
It also helped that Emma is a serious flower person. The day had that colorful, fresh, “give me all the blooms” energy, and it fit the island perfectly.
Emma loved the spiral staircase and the stained glass at Stonecliffe, and we do too. Those are the kinds of venue details that make portraits feel elevated without doing anything extra.
Between the architecture, the color, and the florals, the whole day felt thoughtful and personal. It was not overdone. It was just very “them.”
Mackinac weddings always have little moments you just do not get anywhere else. Carriage rides are one of those.
After the ceremony, we rolled right into carriage time and then knocked out family photos on the lawn. From there, we grabbed couple portraits around the property, leaning into the gardens, the views, and all the spots that made Emma light up when she talked about the venue.
The reception was inside, which gave everything a cozy, celebratory feel once everyone transitioned from the outdoor ceremony.
Emma and Eric kept things fun and fast-paced with toasts, dances, cake, and then straight into an open dance floor. There was even a dress change, which is always such a fun twist because it flips the energy and gives the night a second wind.
One of our favorite moments was the giant dance floor photo. All the guests packed in with Emma and Eric front and center. Those photos always end up being a forever kind of memory.
They wrapped the reception and headed into downtown Mackinac bars, which feels like the most correct way to end an island wedding.
It was the perfect mix of sweet and celebratory. Quiet couple energy, but still absolutely down to party with their people.
Build in buffer time. Everything on Mackinac moves a little differently, and that is part of the charm. Between carriages, walking, and guests exploring, padding the timeline keeps the day feeling relaxed instead of rushed.
Also, if you love florals, go all in. Mackinac and flowers are a perfect match.
