Some weddings are big, loud, and packed wall-to-wall. Holly and Chris went the opposite direction on purpose, and it made everything feel even more special.
They kept the day intimate and family-focused, with a small guest list made up of the people who matter most. The vibe was “we’re here to get married, soak it in, and actually have time with our people,” and honestly, that energy hits every single time.
They chose St John Neumann Catholic Church in Homewood, Illinois because it is Holly’s grandmother’s church. It mattered to her family, it mattered to her grandmother, and it instantly made the ceremony feel rooted in something bigger than just a pretty location.
Chris also shared that all of his grandparents have passed, so choosing a place tied to family legacy felt like the clearest, most meaningful choice.
Holly and Chris got ready separately, each with a small support crew. The theme of the morning was simple, steady, and low-stress. Holly’s side was all about food and travel talk, which is exactly the kind of conversation that keeps nerves from spiraling. Chris’s side was the same vibe, just with sports mixed in.
With a smaller wedding, you feel everything a little more. There’s less chaos, less performing, and more room for real moments. That showed up from the start.
One of the most powerful moments of the day was Holly walking down the aisle with her mother and her 90-year-old grandmother. That is one of those “core memory” moments that hits everyone in the room, including us behind the cameras.
They also brought in meaningful details that weren’t there just for looks. Holly wore a tennis bracelet from Chris’s grandmother as a new tradition for his family, and those kinds of heirlooms carry a lot of weight in the best way.
Holly and Chris chose a traditional Catholic ceremony, and because it was unplugged, everyone was actually present for it. No arms in the aisle with phones, no guests watching the ceremony through a screen. Just their people fully locked in.
And here’s the underrated win of the day. The kids were amazingly well-behaved, the ceremony flowed smoothly, and the couple got to actually be in the moment instead of worrying about a bunch of moving parts.
Their first kiss as husband and wife was the moment that stuck with them the most, and you could feel why. It was quiet, real, and surrounded by the people who love them.
Their wedding inspiration leaned into summer blues and whites, and they had guests wearing shades of blue to match. It photographed beautifully and felt clean, classic, and light without trying too hard.
Pinterest helped shape the vibe, but the end result still felt like them. Simple, intentional, and family-forward.
Holly and Chris wanted more direction for portraits, which we love. You do not need to show up knowing how to pose. If anything, being honest about wanting guidance usually leads to better photos because we can keep it relaxed and easy.
They were also considering a nearby park after the ceremony, which is a great move when you want a little greenery and breathing room without turning portraits into a whole production.
After the ceremony, they headed to The Primal Cut for dinner with their close group. No big reception coverage planned, just a great meal and time with their people. It fit the day perfectly.
They even gave a piece of advice we fully agree with. Keeping it small can mean less stress, more presence, and more budget left for a house, a killer honeymoon, or treating your guests to a nice dinner. Or all three.
If you want your day to feel intimate, keep your guest list tight and your timeline simple. When the room is filled with only the people you truly want there, everything feels more relaxed and more meaningful. You will also have way more time for portraits and family photos without feeling rushed.
