Holly and David’s wedding day at the Heritage Museum and Cultural Center in St. Joseph felt like stepping into a space that already had a story to tell. The architecture, the interior design, and the cozy vibe of the whole building made it the perfect backdrop for a charming, quaint, and seriously beautiful celebration.
They also went unplugged for the ceremony, which always hits different in the best way. Everyone actually looked up, stayed present, and you could feel the room locked in with them.
Holly started her day at Alena & Co in Stevensville, surrounded by the kind of energy that happens when people rarely get to all be together in one place. Lots of catching up, lots of laughs, and plenty of “wait, tell me everything” conversations happening at once.
They ended up finishing early and headed over to the Martin’s side door deli. We kicked things off with details, including the invites and save the dates, her purse, hair accessory, and necklace. Those little pieces matter, especially when they match the day’s whole palette and vibe. Olive green and burgundy were the theme, and it was giving cozy fall elegance without trying too hard. Then the girls went and explored the cereal aisle and we got some fun photos while they pushed Holly in a shopping cart.
David got ready at the Heritage Museum and Cultural Center, keeping things simple and relaxed with his crew. Same vibe as Holly’s side too, everybody excited to be together, and plenty of conversation since they all don’t see each other often either.
This setup worked nicely because once everyone was in place, the day flowed without a ton of bouncing around.
Holly and David chose to wait until the ceremony to see each other, and honestly, it fit them perfectly.
With the indoor ceremony space at the Heritage Museum, the moment felt intimate and warm. When she came in, you could feel the shift in the room. The kind of quiet that’s not awkward, just everyone realizing, “Oh wow, this is it.”
They were married by Rev. Jonathan Liebich, and with the unplug known vibe, it felt like everyone was truly there with them, not just watching through a screen.
Right after the ceremony, we moved into portraits and family formals with a plan that was super intentional.
Holly wanted a set of photos with her immediate family with just her first, then adding David in. Then we did the same flow on David’s side, starting with just him and his immediate family, then adding Holly.
It’s such a smart way to do it. It keeps family photos organized, it moves fast, and it gives you those clean, meaningful groupings without anyone getting overwhelmed.
Cocktail hour kicked off right at the Heritage Museum, and it was one of those relaxed, easy transitions where guests got to mingle while we grabbed couple portraits and candid moments. The building’s interior design is such a vibe for photos, and it gave everything a timeless, cozy feel without needing extra decor.
Once guests were seated, the reception rolled right into entrances and dinner, followed by a lineup of speeches that brought the love. Four to five speeches is a lot, but when the people speaking actually mean it, it turns into one of the best parts of the night.
Holly and David’s first dance was to “So Close” by Jon McLaughlin, and it matched the vibe of the day perfectly. Romantic, simple, and real.
After that came the parent dances, cake cutting, and a dance floor that felt more like a big family hangout than a “formal event,” in the best way possible.
When a wedding day is described as charming, quaint, and beautiful, it usually means the couple built it around what actually mattered to them, and that’s exactly what Holly and David did.
If you want your reception to feel relaxed, build in a buffer between the ceremony and entrances. That little pocket of time is where cocktail hour shines, family photos stay calm, and you get to breathe before speeches and dances kick off.
It makes the whole night feel smoother, and it keeps you from feeling like you’re sprinting through your own wedding.
