Ashley and Tim’s Elkhart engagement session had the best kind of balance.
We started at a shop that felt meaningful to them, then finished in the backyard for a relaxed, real-life vibe that made the whole gallery feel personal and true to who they are.
The best engagement sessions are the ones that actually feel like you.
Not a random location that looks nice, but places that have some kind of connection to your story. For Ashley and Tim, that meant mixing in a “real life” location and ending somewhere comfortable and familiar.
We kicked things off at the shop, which instantly gave the session a cool, unique look.
Shop sessions have great texture, interesting lines, and they naturally feel more documentary and less posed. Plus, when a location means something to you two, it always shows in the photos.
We grabbed a mix of portraits that leaned into the vibe of the space, then kept things moving once we had a solid variety.
Ending the session in the backyard was the perfect contrast.
It slowed everything down in the best way. Comfortable, relaxed, and zero pressure.
Backyard photos are always a favorite because they feel like home, literally. They’re the kind of images that bring you right back to this season of life years later.
Starting at the shop gave the gallery character and texture. Ending at home made it personal and intimate.
That mix creates variety without feeling random, and it tells a fuller story than sticking to one location.
1) Choose one place that matters to you.
A shop, a bar, a hobby spot, your first date location, anything with meaning.
2) End somewhere comfortable.
Home or a backyard makes it easy to relax, which is where the best candid moments show up.
3) Consider two outfits.
One look that matches the shop vibe, one that fits the laid-back backyard feel.
If you want engagement photos that feel personal, relaxed, and built around your real life together, we’d love to help plan it.
Bring us your favorite spots, your everyday vibe, and we’ll turn it into a session that feels like a date, not a checklist.
