Kate and Eric’s St. Joseph engagement session happened in March, which means crisp lake air, softer light, and that calm, off-season vibe we honestly love.
We mixed downtown strolling with Lake Michigan shoreline portraits, and the result was a gallery that feels relaxed, timeless, and very “this is us.”
St. Joe in March is a whole mood.
The town is quieter, the light is softer, and the lake has that dramatic, cinematic feel without the summer crowds.
It’s perfect for couples who want their engagement session to feel like a laid-back date, just with a camera tagging along.
We started downtown with an easy walk, stopping when the light looked good and the backdrops fit their vibe.
Downtown sessions work best when you keep moving. A little walking, a few quick portrait stops, then back to wandering and letting the candid moments happen in between.
Kate and Eric were comfortable together right away. Lots of laughs, lots of natural connection, and that easy chemistry that makes the photos feel effortless.
Then we headed to the beach for that classic Lake Michigan look.
March on the water is breezy, dramatic, and ridiculously pretty on camera. The tones are soft, the sky feels big, and everything looks timeless.
We kept it simple, walked the shoreline, leaned into the breeze, and captured a mix of scenic wide shots and closer portraits that kept the focus on them.
1) Dress for the lake air.
Layers are your best friend in March. They keep you warm and they photograph great.
2) Choose shoes you can walk in.
Downtown and beach sessions both involve a lot of wandering. Comfort keeps the vibe relaxed.
3) Embrace the off-season look.
March gives you moody skies and quieter locations. It’s a vibe, not a drawback.
If you want engagement photos that feel fun, relaxed, and full of real moments, St. Joseph is such a solid choice, especially in the quieter months.
We’ll help you map out the best spots, keep the session flowing, and make sure your gallery feels like you two from start to finish.
