Laura and Rich’s Chicago engagement session came with one key ingredient, rain.
But honestly, that just made the whole thing feel more like a real Chicago date. We leaned into the weather, grabbed some city shots while it sprinkled, then ducked into theWit for drinks to warm up and keep the vibe easy.
Chicago is already a killer engagement session location, but add a rainy day and it gets a little extra mood.
The streets get reflective, the city lights pop more, and everything feels cinematic without trying too hard. Instead of fighting the weather, we worked with it and kept things moving.
We started with a walk through the city and grabbed portraits in the pockets that stayed workable.
A little rain can actually be your friend. It keeps areas less crowded, adds texture to the background, and gives you those clean reflections that make the city feel alive. Laura and Rich stayed totally game, which is always the secret sauce for a rainy session.
When the rain picked up, we pivoted to drinks at theWit.
This is why we love having a “Plan B” spot. It keeps the session feeling like a date, gives you a warm and stylish backdrop, and instantly helps couples relax even more. We captured cozy, candid moments here that balanced the outdoor city shots perfectly.
Rain doesn’t ruin your session, it just changes the story.
You end up with photos that feel more real, more playful, and more “you two” because you’re adapting together. Plus, having an indoor stop like a hotel bar or cocktail lounge adds variety that you wouldn’t get on a perfect-weather day.
1) Always have an indoor option.
A bar, café, hotel lounge, or covered spot makes the day way less stressful.
2) Bring a neutral umbrella.
It looks better in photos and keeps you comfortable.
3) Wear shoes you can walk in.
Wet sidewalks are not the day for slippery soles.
If you want an engagement session that feels like a real date in the city, Chicago is always a great move.
We’ll help plan the flow, keep it flexible, and capture photos that feel natural, even if the forecast has other ideas.
