Some wedding days feel like a perfectly planned movie.
Allison and Justin’s Heston Hills wedding felt more like real life in the best way, because real life has curveballs, happy tears, and the kind of moments you can’t script.
They built a day that felt elegant and romantic, but still fun and grounded. Greenery, creamy neutrals, soft pink accents, and an entire guest list ready to celebrate hard.
And then the rain showed up.
Which honestly ended up being part of what made the day so memorable.
Allison and Justin kept everything in one place at Heston Hills, which is such a win for the flow of the day. No bouncing around, no rushing between locations, just a calm start with their people close by.
Allison had her details ready for those classic “tell the story” shots, and there were a few sentimental touches in the mix too. One of our favorites was the bouquet charm honoring her Grams, plus family rings tucked in with her flowers. Those little pieces carry a lot of weight, and we love when couples weave them in without making it feel like a production.
On Justin’s side, the vibe was exactly what you’d want before a wedding: music, movies, video games, and the kind of laid-back energy that keeps everyone steady.
Both Allison and Justin said the first look was the moment they needed most.
They both carried that “okay we’ve planned for two years and now it’s happening” nervous energy, and the second they were together, you could feel it shift.
This is why we’re obsessed with first looks. Not because they look pretty on camera, but because they give you a real moment that belongs to just the two of you. No audience. No pressure. Just a breath.
Their ceremony was unplugged, which we always love because it changes the whole vibe in the room. People are actually present, actually paying attention, and you can feel it.
It was also non-religious and officiated by their friend Jacob, who got ordained to marry them. That alone makes the ceremony feel more personal, more intentional, and way less cookie-cutter.
And yes, the rain changed the plan.
But the emotional parts of a ceremony do not care where the chairs are. Allison walking in, Justin seeing her, vows and rings and that moment where everything becomes real, it still landed exactly how it was supposed to.
Allison and Justin wanted direction, which is perfect. You don’t need to be “models” to get photos that feel natural and cinematic, you just need a little guidance and permission to be yourselves.
Even with rain keeping things tighter, we leaned into what Heston Hills offered and made it work. We’re big believers in this: the weather isn’t a dealbreaker, it’s just a new lighting plan.
And the results were worth it.
The reception kicked off with all the good stuff: introductions, cake, speeches, dinner, then straight into the party.
But the moments that stuck out most were the quiet ones.
Golden hour didn’t happen the way they hoped, but the end-of-night photos absolutely showed up. The kind of shots that feel like a movie still, especially when you let the night be the backdrop and not the enemy.
They also planned a private last dance, and we cannot recommend that enough. Start the day together, end the day together, and let that be yours.
Also, Allison had a surprise gift for Justin that was such a fun twist: a viewfinder “sneak peek” of a boudoir album. The reaction was exactly what you hope it’ll be. Equal parts shocked, proud, and very into it.
Allison and Justin said the biggest stress leading up to the day was logistics and flow, and that is so normal.
If you’re not hiring a coordinator, you can absolutely still have a smooth day. You just need a plan.
Pick two people who are organized and unbothered by chaos, then give them clear jobs. One person handles timeline and vendor questions. Another handles decor placement and where items go after the wedding. You will feel lighter instantly, and your parents get to actually enjoy the day.
Also, build in those one-on-one moments, because those are the ones you’ll remember forever.
